“There is excellent business and technical flexibility in the VPLS service. Nextgen Group was able to demonstrate data services that provided much lower latency in the network between our main offices and lower cost for high speed connections.”
Duncan Holt, Head of IT, AWD
The Alliance has set up six sites around the country and connected them via Nextgen Group’s high-speed national network with the VPLS service used to connect its Brisbane, Sydney and Perth operations as well as three sites in Adelaide.
According to Duncan Holt, Head of IT for the AWD Alliance, Nextgen Group’s VPLS provides the flexibility, reliability and security that are needed to operate effectively.
“We have one network that covers all of our sites. The collaborative nature of defence project management means that you have highly skilled, professional people spread across various defence installations involved in design, development and manufacturing operations.”
“As a prime data services provider, Nextgen Group came into the picture nicely because it was able to provide a network configuration that facilitates decent collaboration. Low latency is also a critical performance indicator to us. One of the key differentiators between Nextgen Group and other network providers is the relatively direct paths between disparate.
Holt said that the Alliance’s network was designed from the ground up to achieve objectives that were pre-defined by the consortium.
“We were able to go to market and say that we want it big, we want it fast, we want it set up in this way and we want it now,” Mr Holt said. “Nextgen Group was able to deliver on that. It had the best solution in the market to solve some issues we were having relating to the configuration and performance of the network.”
Holt stated that Nextgen Group’s carrier services have delivered tangible benefits to the AWD consortium.
“Nextgen Group has shown a commitment to service and flexibility in how we could use their infrastructure that stood out from others,” he said. “There is excellent business and technical flexibility in the VPLS service. Nextgen Group was able to demonstrate data services that provided much lower latency in the network between our main offices and lower cost for high speed connections. That is of significant value to us.”
Holt goes on to say, “Nextgen Group has also been very responsive to all of our proactive and reactive requests. That core customer service and business flexibility is also really important.”
