BRISBANE, Australia – 1 March, 2016. NEXTDC Limited (ASX: NXT), Australia’s leading Data-Centre-as-a-Service provider, today announced Nextgen Networks had connected its fibre network to the AXONVX virtual exchange in NEXTDC’s P1 data centre in Perth. This will allow customers in Western Australia to access on-demand private connectivity to public clouds and other services from NEXTDC’s east coast data centres, such as AWS Direct Connect, IBM SoftLayer Direct Link, as well as Microsoft ExpressRoute for Office 365 and Azure, with speeds up to 10Gb/s.

AXONVX nodes in NEXTDC’s P1 Perth, M1 Melbourne and S1 Sydney data centres have been connected to Nextgen Network’s fibre network with its new Fusion API. Through AXONVX/Nextgen Networks customers now have the ability to rapidly build and manage any number of hybrid cloud and technology solutions. AXONVX’s scalable, elastic cross-connects activate in minutes and are billed by the hour, giving flexibility and cost control to the user.

Nextgen Networks owns and operates one of Australia’s largest fibre optic networks and interconnects more than 90 data centres across Australia, including 13 in Western Australia, connecting mainland capital cities to regional and remote areas. A year ago, Nextgen Networks introduced east-west 100Gb/s wavelength capacity, offering support for sub-rated 10Gb/s and 100Gb/s Ethernet services with a full suite of connectivity options.

David Yuile, Nextgen CEO said: “As the need for big data increases, the demand for bandwidth grows and our 100Gb/s service capability, coupled with our new switched Ethernet platform and Nextgen Fusion API, means we are well positioned to provide for our customers’ future requirements.

“Nextgen Networks has a track record of innovation and our coast-to-coast Ethernet service is another demonstration of our ability to offer our customers leading-edge services.”

NEXTDC CEO Craig Scroggie commented: “This is a truly exciting development for organisations across Western Australia, which can now access easily provisioned, direct connections to the world’s leading could platforms, from a range of data centres, and build their hybrid cloud strategies. Nextgen Networks’ commitment to supporting the delivery of our AXONVX virtual exchange demonstrates the power of neutral connectivity-as-a-service and how it can rapidly deliver new value to existing infrastructure investments.”
