Metronode Pty Limited (Metronode), part of the Nextgen Group, today unveiled its new generation

data centre facility in Shenton Park, Perth.

Perth 2 at Shenton Park is Metronode’s second data centre in Perth and is engineered to deliver a

market leading PUE of 1.17. The new centre gives Metronode a national footprint of nine data centres

across Australia with capability to support 40MW of ICT load.

Metronode General Manager, Malcolm Roe, said “We are delighted to formally open the centre,

extending the reach of Metronode’s highly efficient and reliable next generation data centres. The

facility is ideally located just 5km west of Perth’s CBD, an ideal position for disaster recovery for the

Perth market.”

“The new data centre can scale to 2.8MW capacity and through the use of free air cooling, is

designed to significantly reduce electricity consumption by up to 90 per cent compared to traditional

data centres. This, combined with the use of our modular plant systems, will deliver world-leading

power utilisation efficiency for our tenants while reducing carbon emissions,” Mr Roe said.

The centre was officially opened by the Honourable Bill Marmion, Western Australian Minister for

Mines and Petroleum.

National IT Services Provider, Empired, is the latest company to acquire data centre collocation

services in the Shenton Park data centre, extending the reach of its enterprise class IT services and

solutions across its operations which span Western Australia, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Empired General Manager Brett Gresele said gaining access to the new data centre would expand his

company’s offering of business technology solutions to government and private sector customers.

“As a service operator in both Perth and on the east coast we needed a supplier who could support us

across the country. With nine data centres and a national fibre network, Nextgen Group was the

obvious choice,” said Mr Gresele.

“The agreement will provide us with broad coverage, scalable efficiencies and we’re pleased to partner

with Nextgen as their values reflect our own – flexible, dynamic and reliable.”
