Nextgen Group has demonstrated the fastest data transmission on a live network ever delivered in Australia, with a successful point-to-point trial running between its primary nodes in Sydney and Canberra.
Having completed the upgrade of the links between Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne to support 100Gbps wavelength services in July this year, Nextgen’s existing high-speed network was augmented to deliver the ambitious trial across a 352km journey.
Nextgen is at the forefront of delivering world class data transmission services in Australia, having made substantial investment in network infrastructure to support its service provider and enterprise customers with high quality, fast and reliable data services.
Chief Technical Officer for Nextgen Group, Phil Martel said “Australia is in a transformative period of technology adoption, with the demand for data services including mobile data, video streaming and rich applications growing by the day. It’s no surprise that the market for bandwidth is estimated to triple between 2012 and 2017.
“Technology development is an inescapable part of our lives as we’re seeing with the continuing rollout of the NBN and migration of data into the cloud. These developments are supporting the capture and dissemination of a huge amount of data and delivering services that will change our lives – from telemedicine to distance education and beyond. However, none of these developments would be possible without a world class backhaul network – and that’s where Nextgen comes in.
“We’re extremely proud not only to have demonstrated the fastest live network data transmission in Australia, but also to be in a position to provide our customers with data capabilities that will keep their businesses at the forefront of emerging technology and ahead of their competitors.
“Our successful 400Gbps trial proves the leading edge capabilities of our network. During the trial our total lit capacity on the Sydney to Canberra route exceeded 1Terabit/s which is a phenomenal result,” Mr Martel said.
Nextgen Group is in the process of upgrading its national network from Brisbane to Perth to support 100 Gbps wavelengths, with the current Sydney-Melbourne-Canberra segment already completed and capable of delivering a nearly 18Tbps.
